Good afternoon sports fans, and welcome back to Gig Harbor Sportsman's Club, and our weekly Sunday afternoon Clays Match.  It's a cool 52degrees today, with scattered clouds and no rain, another perfect day for a Clays Match.  Our match is brought to you today by our Match Director, Chuck Nicodemus.  Doug McLean was busy cooking the books and driving the microphone, and our Arrays Impressario, Chuck Treat, away in Hawaii, I might add, brought us Page 2 of The Great Equalizer Series. We've seen this array before, so I would imagine everyone will ace it, but let's see what the shooters saw today before it's too late.

Round 1

2 straight lines of clays, 4 orange micros on top,  and 4 Green standards below.  If one is shooting any .22 caliber handgun, or an Open Class handgun of any type, that competitor shoots at the orange micros.  If
one is shooting a Limited Class handgun, one shoots at the Green Standards.  In either case, when one successfully breaks all 4 of their respective clays, one then engages the black micro in the middle.

Round 2

The top row starts out with an orange micro, followed by a Green Standard, followed again by 2 orange micros.  On the bottom row, the first clay is a Green Standard, followed by an orange micro, followed by 2
more Green Standards.  Find your proper targets, break them and then engage the black micro in the middle.

Round 3

A little variety starting now.  The first clay on the top row is an orange micro, followed by 2 Green Standards, and ending with another orange micro.  The bottom row starts out with a Green Standard,
followed by 2 orange micros, followed by another Green Standard. Engage and break all those, then it's on to the black micro in the middle.

Round 4

Now the top row alternates between orange micros and Green Standards, starting with the orange micro.  The bottom row alternates between Green Standards and orange micros, beginning with a Green
Standard.  Engage and break your respective targets and then it's on to the black micro in the middle.

Round 5

X marks the spot.  From left to right descending, 4 Green Standards cross a line of orange micros descending from right to left.  Both orange and Green lines of clays bracket the black micro in the middle.
So how did everyone do??

In our Ladies Class, Marla Crouch was victorious with a score of 25 + 1, the result of a shootoff with 2nd Place Lady, Carrie Morton. In 3rd place was Giti Anable.   Apologies Giti, I didn't get your score.

In our Open Class, this reporter, Hal Hansen won it with a score of 48, followed by Tim Kopp in 2nd place with a score of 43. In 3rd place in the Open Class, Ken Bagley SR.
finished with a score of 42.

In our Limited Class, David Lee showed the way with a score of 43.  In 2nd Limited, Jay Schoonmaker shot a 41, and in 3rd place in our Limited Class Tim Anable shot a score of 38.

Looks like that's about it for this week.  Don't forget our next GHSC Plate Match will be held May 3rd at 6:00pm.  Starting last Monday, on the 1st & 3rd Mondays of each month, except for Mondays falling on National Holidays, we'll be right here at 6:00pm and shoot plates.  Next Sunday at 4PM, we'll be right here for another great Clays Match, and we expect to see you all here too.  Until then always remember when you are shooting and practicing:

Overlapping Poppers Coming to Gig Harbor Sportsman's Club Plate Matches

Plate Shooters;

Pursuant to the success of the  2010 Inaugural Plate Match at Gig Harbor Sportsmans Club April 19th, now
it will get even better.  It is the pleasure of the Plate Match Staff at Gig Harbor Sportsmans Club to announce that overlapping poppers will appear in the next scheduled match May 3, 2010.  As those of you fortunate enough to attend last night's Inaugural Match saw, there were a lot of really close duels, decided by fractions of seconds.  Starting with our next match on Monday May 3, 2010 at 6:00PM, the overlapping poppers will decide the close finishes with no doubt of the victor.
With the desire in mind to make our match more intense and diverse over time, there will be additional features appearing periodically, with those features announced before their inception.  Stay tuned for further details of new and exciting attractions
coming to the GHSC Plate Matches.

April 19, 2010 Inaugural Gig Harbor Sportsmans Club Plate Match Report

18 Guns Entered

     Match won by Lee Lewis

     2nd - Mark (OJ) Kimura

     3rd - George Flaherty

4th - Hal Hansen (OK, I know placings only go down to 3rd Place, but I'm writing the report, so I get it my way.

Welcome to 2010s Inaugural Plate Match at Gig Harbor Sportsman's Club.  Henceforth, here at Gig Harbor Sportsman's Club, on the 1st & 3rd Monday of each month, except on Mondays falling on National Holidays, at 6PM, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A PLATE MATCH.  The matches will be hosted and directed by Mike Blondin.  OJ Kimura will be head Line Marshall, and when George Flaherty returns in 4 weeks, he will step back into the job of Scorekeeper & Dealer of the Duels.
Our evening started out with great weather, a few scattered clouds and the temperature standing at a shirt sleeve 63degrees.  By the end of the match, the temperature had plummeted to 61, and we brought out the umbrella to protect George from a few stray raindrops.
We were honored to have our club's President, Le Rodenburg & his wife Jeannie,
stop by for a look at the proceedings tonight.  Le & Jeannie were enroute to a fancy restaurant, but while they were here they said they were impressed with the way it was run.
Good to see you folks tonight.  When asked, Le & Jeannie assured me they would be back, packing iron this time, and stay to play.  We'll be ready folks, and remember, we don't give club Presidents, or their wives, head starts.
We had 18 guns register tonight.  So far, this plate match is in it's 2nd Infancy, but our Match Director, Mike Blondin, has plans for more classes, with more variety and more fun.  Details to follow soon.  For tonight, we have 1 Class, winner take all, We'll get more sophisticated later, but for tonight, let's just shoot and have fun.
Due to the efficiency of the match staff, we were able to get in 5 Rounds plus a Sudden Death Finale.  The beginning of the end started when Lee Lewis outran this reporter, Hal Hansen with a smooth, fast accurate string of fire  (Lee, not this reporter).
OJ then got by George, Lee got by James, and that looked like so much fun that George followed suit against James as well.  Lee then added insult to injury by outrunning this reporter, Hal Hansen, again.  Lee had his NightHawk running well again, having just gotten it back from...well, somewhere, today.  Anyway, bottom line, exit Hal.  Lee outran George next, which put George on the trailer.  OJ put James on the trailer next, just before Lee put OJ away for the evening.  Tonight's winner, and the winner of Gig Harbor Sportsman's Club's inaugural Plate Match of 2010 is Lee Lewis.  Congratulations Lee.

OK Folks, as it stands now, this match will always be run on the 1st & 3rd Mondays of Each Month.  I guess we'll have to see how long our Match Director, Mike Blondin, can last two weeks without a plate match at GHSC.  So that's it for this time folks, see you in two weeks on May 3rd, 2010.  Until then, practice hard, and always remember

IT'S ALL ABOUT SIGHT ALIGNMENT & TRIGGER SQUEEZE.  THE REST IS JUST THERE TO CONFUSE YOU.

4/18/10 Gig Harbor Sportsmans Club Clays Match Report

16 Guns Entered

            1 Lady, Debbie Kieth

6 Open Class, Class won by Mathew Reid with a score of 47

2nd Open, Chuck Treat with a score of 42

     2nd Limited, Jay Schoonmaker with a score of 42 + 1

3rd Limited, Steve Tinner with a score of 40

Welcome back to GHSC folks, and another sunny & warm Spring day in Western Washington.  First, the important stuff. How about a big welcome to Rick Gaida for agreeing to take over the Rifle/Pistol Range CzarShip.  Good luck, Rick,  you are taking over a very large job indeed. Let us know if any of us can help in any way.
Thanks to Chuck Nicodemus for hosting our Clays Match.  Thanks to Doug McLean for cooking the books and running the mic, and thanks to our Arrays Impressario, Chuck Treat, for bringing us Page 1 of The Great Equalizer Series.  This will be the 2nd time through this target array series, so we are all likely to shoot perfect scores, but because I get paid by the word here, let's take another look at the match from the competitors point of view.

Round 1

2 rows of clays, the top row with 4 orange micros, and the bottom row having 4 Green standards.  If you are entered in the Open Class, you engage the orange micros, if entered in the Limited Class, you engage the Green Standards.  Either way, when you successfully break your respective 4 targets, you then engage the black micro in the middle.

Round 2

Round 2 is an exact repeat of Round 1.  This gives the Clays shooter a false sense of security, and imparts the delusion of familiarity.  I mean, What Could Happen?

Round 3 & Round 4

Again identical strings of targets, the top rows starting with 3 orange micros, and ending with a Green Standard.
The bottom row starting with 3 Green Standards, and ending with an orange micro.  Once more, the repitition is designed to impart a sense of security, and a delusion of familiarity.  What could be easier?

Round 5

Well, now we're mixing and matching.  The top row starts out with a Green Standard, changes to 2 orange micros, and ends with another Green Standard.  The bottom row starts with an orange micro, changes to 2 Green Standards, then ends with another orange micro.  Keeping in mind which targets go with which class, and if successful so far, engage the black micro in the middle.  Let's check results of the action today.

In the Ladies Class, we have a new face, Debbie  Kieth, who introduced herself today,
and mighty happy to have you we are.  We sure hope you had a good time today Debbie, and we hope to see you each & every week, right here.

In the Open Class, a face we haven't seen for awhile, Mathew Reid, returning with a winning score of 47.  2nd Open, our Arrays Impressario, Chuck Treat, with a score of 42.
3rd Open today was taken by Ken Bagley, SR. with a score of 38.

In the Limited Class, we ended regulation play with a tie between Jay Schoonmaker shooting his 4" Ruger PP 100 in .38cal, and Jim Skedd and his NightHawk .45ACP.,
finishing with scores of 42.  Folks, we're gonna have a Shootoff!!
One target screen back to 44 Ft, 4 orange micros all in a row on each side, and a black micro in the middle.  Our MC, Doug McLean calls the action.

"Shooters to the Line, Load 5 rounds.  Shooters Ready?  Fire!! Jay & Jim engage the orange micros, Jim fairly aggessively, and Jay very, very carefully.  "Aggressively" rules the day today though, and at the end of the first & only string, Jim Skedd has hit 3 orange micros, to Jay's 1.  Not today, Jay.  Jim Skedd's Nighthawk has attacked from on high, and won the Limited Class with a score of 42 + 3.

So there you have it for today folks.  And Remember!!  Starting tomorrow, Monday April 19, 2010 at 6:00PM, GHSCs plate matches return.  Mike Blondin will be the Match Director, the rules and protocols will be essentially the same as before, so come on out and shoot plates on Monday Nights.  The match will be over by 8:30pm, so you won't even be late getting to bed.
We'll be back right here next Sunday at 4:00PM for another Clays Match, so practice hard, practice often, and always remember:

"SHOOT FAST!!  SHOOT ACCURATELY!!  BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, SHOOT SAFELY"

Arrays Impressario - Chuck Treat, this week bringing us Page 6 of The Great Equalizer series of arrays.

Good evening Sports Fans.  We have another Sunday afternoon Clays Match, brought to you from sunny & warm Gig Harbor Sportsmans Club.  This week we have
16 competitors entered in the match,  & we're looking at Pg 6 of The Great Equalizer Series brought to you by our Arrays Impressario, Chuck Treat.
You have probably noticed that the target arrays haven't gotten any easier as the series progresses.  Today is no exception.  Let's take a good look at what the shooters are facing on this sunny, 57 degree afternoon.

Round 1

We start out with two rows of clays, the top row leading off with Green Standards, followed by 2 orange micros.
The bottom row starts off with 2 orange micros, followed by Green Standards.  You know the drill.  According to which class in which you are entered, break your appropriate targets, and head in to the black micro in the middle.

Round 2

This one starts off again with Green Standards on the top row, followed by 2 orange micros.  The bottom row begins with 1 orange micro, followed by a Green Standard,  then another orange micro, followed by a Green Standard.  Pick out your clays targets, engage and break them, then engage and attempt to break the black micro in the middle.

Round 3

The top and bottom rows both alternate sizes of clays, the top row starting with a Green Standard, and then an orange micro.
That pairing is repeated and repeated again, in the opposite order, on the bottom row.  Again, pick out your targets, break them and then blaze away at the black micro in the middle.

Round 4

This Clays Match uses the Mix & Match configuration.  On the top row we see Green Standard, Orange micro, and repeat. On the bottom row we start out with 2 orange micros & Green Standards.  Pick out your designated targets according to your class, then pounce on the black micro in the middle.

Round 5

Top & bottom rows are the same now.  On the top row, we see 2 orange micros, followed by Green Standards.
This configuration is duplicated on the bottom row.  Both classes of shooters pick one end of the target arrays, shoot 2 on top,
2 on the bottom, and go hunting for the black micro in the middle.

After the noise & the dust settles, we have Marla Couch winning the Ladies Class, with a score of 31.  Giti Anable follows closely with a score of 27.

In the Limited Class, with scores of 45, Dan Moore & David Lee are tied.  Folks, we have a shootoff!!  The frames stay at 10yds, but the Limited guns are shooting at orange micros, in the shape of a square.  In the middle, of course, is the black micro.
Shooters to the Line, Load 5 rounds!!  Shooters Ready?  Fire!!  As the thunder subsides, and quiet returns to the range, both Dan Moore & David Lee have hit 3 targets.
Limited Class Shootoff, Take 2.  Dan & David are loaded & ready, Doug McLean calls
Fire!! the Thunder Rolls.  When calm returns, We have a Winner!!  Dan Moore has hit 3
targets again, and David Lee has hit but 1.  Dan Moore wins the Lmited Class honors today. Scores - 45 + 3 + 3

     2nd Limited - David Lee 45 + 3 + 1

      3rd Limited - Chuck Treat 42

In the Open Class, Jay Schoonmaker continues his winning ways with a score of 44.  In 2nd Open, Hal Hansen finishes with a score of 43.  3rd Open, with a score of 40, Tim Kopp gets his name on the scoreboard.

OK Folks, that's it for today.  Next week we start over with The Great Equalizer Series,
Page 1.  In your daily practice, remember the fundamentals.  Sight Alignment, Trigger prep, Grip, Stance & Follow Through.  When you practice, a lot or a little at a time, pretend there is $$$$$Money$$$$$ riding on every shot.  More importantly, always remember:

SHOOT FAST!!  SHOOT ACCURATELY!!  BUT MOST OF ALL, SHOOT SAFELY!!!!
