Welcome back to GHSC folks, and another sunny & warm Spring day in Western Washington. First, the important stuff. How about a big welcome to Rick Gaida for agreeing to take over the Rifle/Pistol Range CzarShip. Good luck, Rick, you are taking over a very large job indeed. Let us know if any of us can help in any way.
Thanks to Chuck Nicodemus for hosting our Clays Match. Thanks to Doug McLean for cooking the books and running the mic, and thanks to our Arrays Impressario, Chuck Treat, for bringing us Page 1 of The Great Equalizer Series. This will be the 2nd time through this target array series, so we are all likely to shoot perfect scores, but because I get paid by the word here, let's take another look at the match from the competitors point of view.
Round 1
2 rows of clays, the top row with 4 orange micros, and the bottom row having 4 Green standards. If you are entered in the Open Class, you engage the orange micros, if entered in the Limited Class, you engage the Green Standards. Either way, when you successfully break your respective 4 targets, you then engage the black micro in the middle.
Round 2
Round 2 is an exact repeat of Round 1. This gives the Clays shooter a false sense of security, and imparts the delusion of familiarity. I mean, What Could Happen?
Round 3 & Round 4
Again identical strings of targets, the top rows starting with 3 orange micros, and ending with a Green Standard.
The bottom row starting with 3 Green Standards, and ending with an orange micro. Once more, the repitition is designed to impart a sense of security, and a delusion of familiarity. What could be easier?
Round 5
Well, now we're mixing and matching. The top row starts out with a Green Standard, changes to 2 orange micros, and ends with another Green Standard. The bottom row starts with an orange micro, changes to 2 Green Standards, then ends with another orange micro. Keeping in mind which targets go with which class, and if successful so far, engage the black micro in the middle. Let's check results of the action today.
In the Ladies Class, we have a new face, Debbie Kieth, who introduced herself today,
and mighty happy to have you we are. We sure hope you had a good time today Debbie, and we hope to see you each & every week, right here.
In the Open Class, a face we haven't seen for awhile, Mathew Reid, returning with a winning score of 47. 2nd Open, our Arrays Impressario, Chuck Treat, with a score of 42.
3rd Open today was taken by Ken Bagley, SR. with a score of 38.
In the Limited Class, we ended regulation play with a tie between Jay Schoonmaker shooting his 4" Ruger PP 100 in .38cal, and Jim Skedd and his NightHawk .45ACP.,
finishing with scores of 42. Folks, we're gonna have a Shootoff!!
One target screen back to 44 Ft, 4 orange micros all in a row on each side, and a black micro in the middle. Our MC, Doug McLean calls the action.
"Shooters to the Line, Load 5 rounds. Shooters Ready? Fire!! Jay & Jim engage the orange micros, Jim fairly aggessively, and Jay very, very carefully. "Aggressively" rules the day today though, and at the end of the first & only string, Jim Skedd has hit 3 orange micros, to Jay's 1. Not today, Jay. Jim Skedd's Nighthawk has attacked from on high, and won the Limited Class with a score of 42 + 3.
So there you have it for today folks. And Remember!! Starting tomorrow, Monday April 19, 2010 at 6:00PM, GHSCs plate matches return. Mike Blondin will be the Match Director, the rules and protocols will be essentially the same as before, so come on out and shoot plates on Monday Nights. The match will be over by 8:30pm, so you won't even be late getting to bed.
We'll be back right here next Sunday at 4:00PM for another Clays Match, so practice hard, practice often, and always remember:
"SHOOT FAST!! SHOOT ACCURATELY!! BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, SHOOT SAFELY"
