Good evening Ladies & Gentlemen, and welcome back to Gig Harbor Sportsmans Club for another Falling Plate Match.  The evening started off with a heavy overcast, threatening rain, actually had a few drops fall, but then it cleared up and, while really a dark night, the 58degree temperature was enough to be pleasant.  The range lights were working again at the 25yd line, and at the front of the shooting booths at the regular firing line.  In between, it was dark.  A remark was overheard that plate shooting "was really about the ambience."  I guess we'll have to ask our Scorekeeper and DJ, George Flaherty about the ambiance.  George's scoretable could have benefited from, at least, a candleabra.  Too bad George doesn't smoke, he could have used his cigarette lighter.  At the plate match firing line, looking down at the deck to get the front sight imprinted in your mind's eye produced very little imprint, since except for the plates themselves, darkness ruled the range.  Well, one thing about it, it was the same for everyone.  Take heart folks, the range lights will return, so be patient.
Along with our Scorekeeper and DJ; George Flaherty, we wish to thank our Match Director; Mike Blondin, and our setup crew of George, Mike, Mathew & Wolfgang.  If I missed anyone that helped, my apologies.  We appreciate your efforts, as do all the plateshooters.  We couldn't do it without you.
We started out with 13 Guns entered in our match, and we got in 5 Rounds & a Sudden Death Finale.  After Loren Deshon, shooting his H&K P-7 was kind enough to put this reporter, Hal Hansen & his Kimber 1911 on the trailer, it came down to duels between Loren DeShon, Nick (Wolfgang) Seagraves shooting a Glock 19 & George Flaherty shooting his S&W 1911 .  We join the Sudden Death Finals in progress with George  dueling with Loren, with Loren & his H&K P-7 winning this one.  About the only shooter that got by Loren tonight was Wolfgang Seagraves and his Glock 19.  Anyway, the action continues with Wolfgang dueling with Loren, with Loren winning another one, close though.  Loren followed this success with a win over George, which Loren duplicated on the next draw, again against George.  Loren next drew Wolfgang, and feeling all full of himself from his back to back wins against George, decided to shoot this duel with Wolfgang using his strong hand only.  Wolfgang wasn't having any of that, and outran Loren decidedly to the finish.  It was down to just Wolfgang & Loren now, and Loren once again tried the stronghand only approach, this time with more success.  Finally, it was down to Wolfgang's final number, they faced off , and Loren wanted to make sure his stronghand only approach really did work, so he tried it again.  It was close, Wolfgang almost got there first, but tonight was Loren's night, and Loren took the string, and the Match with a clean, fast run.
Match Winner:  Loren DeShon, 2nd place to Nick (Wolfgang) Seagraves, and 3rd place to George Flaherty.  Congratulations to the Top Three Finishers, and to the entire field for a night of great shooting under difficult conditions,
and for the Safety & Excellent gun handling shown by all.  We'll be right back here on October 18, 2010 and we'll play this game again.  Until then, always remember your priorities:  Safety FirstAccuracy 2nd, and when those priorities have been mastered, then
Speed !
We'll see you in two weeks folks, and until then always remember:

"SPEED IS FINE, BUT ACCURACY IS FINAL"
