June 7, 2010 Gig Harbor Sportsmans Club Plate Match Report

14 Guns Entered      Match won by Loren DeShon
      2nd Place - Lee Lewis
       3rd Place - Tim Ridenaur

It's the first Monday of June, 2010 and we're back at Gig Harbor Sportsmans Club for another plate match.  It's a beautiful Spring Evening, and 14 guns are entered to compete for two weeks worth of bragging rights.  Our match tonight, as always, is brought to you courtesy of Gig Harbor Sportsmans Club, and we thank them for the use of the excellent facilities and their gracious welcome.
Thanks go also to our Match Director & Scorekeeper, Michael Blondin, for putting this all together.  Our Line Marshall team tonight was captained by Mathew Seagraves & Mark Kimura, with cameos by Loren DeShon.  With these guys running the show we got in 5 Rounds of shooting and a Sudden Death Finale.
There was a fairly light turnout tonight, with 14 guns making the trip.  Maybe the rest of the regular competitors were at home mowing lawns or weeding gardens.  By the end of our Sudden Death Finale, there were still 3 Guns with numbers on the board,  and now the curtain is going up on the final act of the match.
The Final 3 shooters still contending for tonight's match victory are Tim Ridenaur, Loren DeShon & Lee Lewis.  The first of the last duels is between Tim Ridenaur & Loren DeShon.  The standard protocol for plate engagement is 4 plates & the popper.  At this stage of the match however, the usual protocol gives way to everyone going for All Of'em, which in this case is 5 plates & the popper.  Remember, there is a six round capacity limit in all firearms , so it's 6 Rounds, for 6 targets.  Don't Miss!  In this duel, Tim did, and Loren didn't, duel to Loren.  It's a much better idea to slow down a bit and make sure you hit the plates the first time, because against these guys, there is no second time.
Loren advances to a duel with Lee Lewis, and by the narrowest of margins, Loren gets there first.  Loren is shooting a seldom seen HK P-7 "Lemon Squeezer", in this duel against Lee's NightHawk.  Duel to the Lemon Squeezer.  Loren DeShon is on a winning streak now, and Tim steps up to try and end it.   Not this time Tim, another close duel to Loren.  Tim gets an opportunity for revenge, as he draws Loren for a back to back engagement.  Loren is unstoppable by now, and shows Tim the door, and the steps leading to the trailer.  Exit Tim Ridenaur.
Folks, we are down to the last duel, the one for all the marbles.  It's between Lee Lewis and his  NightHawk, against Loren DeShon and his Heckler & Koch P-7 Lemonsqueezer.  Mathew Seagraves will call the action.  Shooters, load and make Ready!!  Shooters Ready?  Stand By!!  At the starter's horn, Loren & Lee go for All Of'em!!  Thunder Rolls, we have the clatter of falling steel, and the two Clanks!! as the poppers fall.  Tonight, in this duel, for 2 Weeks of bragging rights, Loren DeShon's popper is laying tight to the deck, with Lee's popper on top.  As has often been noted, a plate match is not the time to come out on top!!  Duel to Loren DeShon, 2nd place to Lee Lewis, and 3d place to Tim Ridenaur.
Tonight's match, with 14 entries, was a fast paced affair.  We had 5 Rounds & A Sudden Death Finale and were stlll done by 7:30pm.  There was virtually no standing around, and all the shooters had to be ready to step to the line at a moment's notice.
Tonight's match was action shooting at it's best, and we invite all the plate shooters within the sound of my computer to come out and share the fun.  Our next match will be June 21, 2010 at 6PM.  Grab your pet pistol "Fluffy", eyes & ears, plenty of ammunition, all your magazines, and come help us gun down the clunky old plates.  Keep Loren & Company on their toes and make them work for their fame.  So until June 21, 2010 at 6PM, drive carefully, practice a lot and when shooting always remember:

"IT'S ALL ABOUT SIGHT PICTURE AND TRIGGER SQUEEZE.  THE REST IS JUST THERE TO CONFUSE YOU!!"
