     18 Guns ventured out in the heat, in a seque to the hottest recorded temperature in Washington State History on Wednesday, the next day.  I don't think anyone expected so many shooters to come out in the heat, but as has been said before: "We make'em tough at Gig Harbor Sportsman's Club". 

     Many thanks to those that set up and ran the match, and thanks to Rob Potter for forwarding me the report of the results of the match.  Rob's opening line of his memo to me about the results of the match began: "This is going to be short."  Well folks, now you know all this reporter knows of last night's match.  With temperatures soaring well over 100 degrees, it is going to take some exciting shooting to be as hot as the temperatures.  My suggestion:  Come out next week and see for yourself.  See you next Monday for the plates practice, next Tuesday for the plate match, and Sunday afternoon at 4pm for the GHSC Clays match.

Come out and shoot in the heat, the bullets will go faster.  And always remember:

7/26/09 Clays Match Report

     Open Class won by Hal Hansen with a score of 46

      Limited Class won by Steve Tinner with a score of 38

 

     12 guns made the trip to Gig Harbor Sportsman's Club for our weekly clays match.  With temps hovering near 90degrees I guess there were just too many other, cooler, things to do.  The shooting was about as hot as the temperatures at the club today, and at the end of regulation play we had 2 winners.  Hal Hansen won the Open Class with a score of 46, while Steve Tinner led the Limited Class  with a score of 38.  In a match as hotly contested as the GHSC Clays Matches, fortunes can rise and fall from week to week, and moment, pointing out the need for vigilance and keeping one's attention focused on the job at hand every minute, nay, every second.  This reporter is reminded that he scored a 46 in Open Class last week, and Jay Schoonmaker handed him a rather distant second place.  Well Jay, one can't be perfect every week.  On that note of "wisdom"

As was the case the last time we saw this array,  the one constant was change.  The targets started off to be mixed up with a variety of standards and micros, only to evolve into nothing but the little targets.  One can only keep his eyes on the dots and the front sights, prep the triggers carefully, and squeeeeeze.  We'll see you all here next week for Array Series D.  With the top Score today being a 46, Hotshot sat out the match in his stall, under the fans, with the grooms brushing and currying him, and if it gets cool enough I hear they plan on taking him for a ride through the woods.  Well, Hotshot, it should be cool enough out there.  Take heart Hotshot, Jay may be back on form next week and give you another victory lap around the big field.  Stay tuned right here folks, and we'll all find out together.

July 21, 2009 Plate Match Memorandum

Memorandum to plate shooters;

 

     This evening apparently saw a confluence of "have to" and "want to".  Apparently many of our regular plate shooters just had other obligations and were unable to attend.  I know the GHSCs Board of Directors meeting took a couple of our shooters out of the action.  Temperatures approaching 90degrees probably didn't help any either.  A few shooters trickled in right at the beginning of festivities, and those that made the effort were rewarded with an evening of practice, albeit under match conditions.

     Thanks to Reba for running our score table, and for shuffling and dealing the poker chips containing the fate of the duelers.

Thanks to those who took turns running the line as Rob adjourned to the board meeting to help run our club.

Twelve shooters showed up and our practice lasted a bit over an hour.  At that point we all declared victory and went home.

We'll see you all next Monday evening at 5pm for our weekly plate practice, and then again at 6pm Tuesday for our weekly plate match.  We all hope everyone can clear out their schedule next week, and every week, to come out and participate in "one of the important things in life."

     Open Class won by Jay Schoonmaker with a PERFECT 50

     Limited Class won by Steve Tinner with a score of 35

 

Hi Yo, Hotshot!! 

     It's been a long time since Hotshot, our GHSC Clays Match Mascot has taken anyone for a victory lap after scoring a perfect clays match score.  Well, it happened today.  Jay Schoonmaker scored a perfect 50 against all comers and took our Unicorn for a fast lap into Victory Lane.  Jay, you had that Open Class Gun talking to everyone today. 

     In the Limited Class, with a score of 35 was Steve Tinner.  Steve hasn't been shooting our Clays Matches very long, but in the couple of months he has been, Steve has been a consistent fast accurate force.  Well done gents.  Let's see what you faced today.

July 14,2009 Plate Match Report

28 Guns Entered    Match Won by Scott Scheitzach

     Junior Class - 2 - won by Kiel Marvik

     Young Bucks & Does Class - 17 - won by Rob Potter

     Senior Class - 5 - won by Rebecca Potter

     Super Senior Class - 4 - won by George Flaherty

 

     Good evening folks.  In Hal's absence, George Flaherty will be the reporter for tonight's match.  Thanks to O.J., with help from Matchew, for setting up the stage.  Rob and Reba ran an efficient match and we were able to shoot 5 rounds, with a sudden death finale, even with 28 shooters. We had one round of mandatory reloads, and a first time ever round where it was required to drop the center plate before engaging the others.  This new twist resulted in several losses by shooters who moved on to the other 4 plates before dropping the required center plate first.

     We pick up the action with 6 shooters still alive:  Kiel, Rebecca,OJ, Rob, Scott, and George.  Kiel beats Rebecca who retires as our Senior Class winner.  Several duels later Scott downs Kiel who retires as our Junior Class winner.  The next shooter to retire is O.J. as George ends his night.  Scott is hot tonight as he beats Rob and George.  Then, Rob and George are both down to one number, while Scott has more numbers on the board than one can count.  Scott begins to clean the slate as he beats George again.  Exit our Super Senior Class winner.  Scott then puts the finishing touches on the night by eliminating Rob, our Young Bucks and Does Class winner. 

     As is usually the case, it was a nice night for a plate match.  Come on out next week and give it a try.  Don't forget the plate practice each and every Monday evening at 5pm.  Get a running start on the plate match the following evening. See you then.

          Welcome back sports fans, to a 66degree, cloudy, drizzly day, perfect for a Clays Match.  We're using Series "A" today, so we've been all the way through the catalog now, and starting over.  We'll see how much we've learned thus far. 

Welcome to our new Clays shooters today.  We're always glad to welcome new guns, and we hope you have a ball and return often.

     As I said earlier, we're using Array Series "A" today, so let's GET IT ON!!  Round 1 looks familiar.  Yes, 3 giant standard clays and 3 orange micros, all before getting to the center, objective black micro.

     At the end of regulation play, we have one winner and one tie score.  In the Limited Class, with a score of 28 (you think this game is easy??!!) Dan Moore leads the way.  It just goes to show:  How well you're doing depends on how well your competition is doing.  I think you got lucky today, Dan.

 

     In the Open Class, tied with scores of 47, are Jay Schoonmaker and and Chuck Treat.  Yep, it's a SHOOTOFF!!
