20 Guns Entered
10 Open Guns, Class won by Jay Schoonmaker - Score 48

10 Limited Guns, Class won by Mark Wuesthoff - Score 35

It's August in the Pacific Northwest, and the weather was perfect for a clays match today.  The sky was a clear blue, and the temperature was a delightful 72degrees.  We had a large entry field today, with 20 guns contending for the class victories.  Chuck Treat, our Arrays impressario, presented us with target array "J" this afternoon, and challenging it truly is.  Chuck has added a new twist to the arrays, using 3 different size clay targets, mixing and matching as an artist mixes his paints on a canvas.  Let's take a look at how we do it at Gig Harbor Sportsman's Club.

Round 1
This array has it all; 3 sizes of clays, multicolored, and pick the path of your choice.  Be careful though, that black micro in the middle takes some aiming.

          O            O                        O            O
                                                                           O

                            O                      O                       O                   O

Round 2
A bit more variety as we see some large black clays, contrasting large green, medium orange and of course the ubiquitous black mini in the middle.

         O            O                        O             O

                                                                         O

                          O                      O                      O                        O

Round 3
Well, there are still at least 2 large clays in this array.  6 medium-sized orange, and of course the black mini in the middle.

          O                       O                        O             O

                                                            O

                            O                       O                      O                      O

Round 4
Bye bye large clays.  now it's all micros and midis, all orange, except for the black micro in the middle.

         O                                O                                     O                             O

                                                                       O

                         O                     O                     O                      O

Round 5
It's all minis now.  4 orange minis on each side,  and the black mini in the middle.

         O                               O                                               O                            O

                                                                   O

                         O                          O                          O                       O

At the end of regulation play, we have a pair of winners.  In the Open Class, with the high score for the match at 48, Jay Schoonmaker has shown the way.  Jay had the distinction and pleasure of edging out this reporter by 1 target.  Imagine getting a score of 47 and losing.  Rats!!  Well, many of us that often compete against Jay are used to pain.  Well done Jay.
In the Limited Class, with only iron sights and aging eyes, Mark Wuesthoff led the pack with a score of 35.  Well done Mark.
Hey Mark!! There's a  reason us older, Significantly more experienced shooters, use optics.  Even ex-Marines could benefit.
(This reporter will pay for that crack in the plate matches to follow)

OK folks, It's still summer for a good while yet.  Come on out and enjoy shooting at Clays.  The fields have been growing, and our scorekeeper and announcer, Doug McLean, has been running a smooth match.  Thanks also to Chuck Nicodemus for hosting our clays match, and thanks to Chuck Treat for laying awake nights dreaming up new arrays to challenge the shooters.  With
an "A" team like that, Sunday afternoons will forever be hard-pressed to offer anything better.  Come on Down!!
