June 2, 2009 Plate Match Report

34 guns entered tonight
2 Junior Guns - Class won by Kiel Marvik
18 Young Bucks & Does - Class won by Lee Lewis
8 Seniors - Class won by Dan Moore
6 Super Seniors - Class won by George Flaherty

We had a hot time at the old range tonight. Temperatures hovered at 81degrees, in the range bldg, in the shade.
Thanks to Mathew & Wolfgang Seagraves, and Mark (O.J.) Kimura for setting up the stage. Thanks to Rob & Reba Potter for running the scoreboard, the microphone and marshalling the firing line. With all this good help, even with 34 guns entered, we got in 4 rounds of shooting and the "Sudden Death" finale.
We join the festivites in progress as Dan Moore and George Flaherty shoot to a tie. On the re-run, George outruns Dan, who leaves the firing line with a look of frustration. Bryce and Reba duel, with Bryce winning, followed by Rob and OJ, with Rob winning. OJ takes a bit of revenge on Lee then, and to prove that he can do it too, Rob takes a fast duel from Lee. At this time, George and Bryce duel, with George winning, exit Bryce. Rob duels with Dan and wins. Exit Dan, our Senior Class victor tonight. OJ duels with Lee, but Lee has had about enough of losing for awhile, and defeats OJ in a fast duel. Exit OJ. We now have 5 guns still up and running; Rob with 2, George with 1, and Lee with 2. George and Lee duel, with George winning - Rob 2, George 1, Lee 1. Rob and Lee duel, and Rob is in the groove now. Winner Rob, Exit Lee, our Young Bucks & Does Class winner.
So, after a long, hot, night of very hot shooting, it comes down to Rob with 2 numbers on the board, to George's 1.
Shooters, Load and Make Ready!! Shooters Ready? At the horn Rob and George attack the plates, but, sorry George, not tonight. Rob wins the string of fire, the match and George is retired with the Super Senior Class ribbon to hang on his wall this week. Not bad for an old guy, George:)
Well, the weather is predicted to be hot, dry and sunny for about 2 weeks, and there is no better place to enjoy it than at GHSC at a plate match. Come one, come all. Bring a fast gun, some good eyes, and an attitude of safety. We'll see you next week right here. Drive safely. And remember always:

SHOOT FAST!! SHOOT ACCURATELY!! BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, SHOOT SAFELY!!

Hal
